Hi everybody!
Its now late autumn and there has been some significant updates to the UCalgary Blogs platform! First, and foremost – thank you everyone who contacted us pointing out issues and problems with your blogs after the relaunch. Please feel free to continue to contact us if you have questions, comments, or concerns.
Since September, there has been a lot of backend changes to improve the performance and usability of the platform including, but not limited to:
- Updated to WordPress 6.3.2 in preparation for updating to the forthcoming WordPress 6.4.
- Addition of the Flemming theme, a new WCAG 2.0 theme that is focused on academic content.
- Continued database optimization, including a caching system – you should see better performance in loading and editing.
- Higher security requirements on passwords – soon your password on UCalgary Blogs will expire and you will need to reset it with a new one with password requirements more in line with what IT requires.
- Additional document resources on using the various new functions of the platform – such as embedding Yuja in a post.
New site registration is live-ish!
Previously, if you had previously registered a site on UCalgary Blogs it would be a subdomain site. From now on, all new sites will be created under the https://sites.ucalgaryblogs.ca/ subdomain. This organization may become more specific for different departments as time goes on, and eventually, we will be moving all blogs from subdomains into this subdirectory URL pattern.
Request for Input!
As the dust settles and UCalgary Blogs begins to be utilised by the general campus community, we are going to be looking for new ways to expand it to fit a variety of needs – new features, plugins, abilities. So watch this space for opportunities to provide your input!
