This page will describe some of the features of UCalgaryBlogs.ca – what kinds of stuff can you do here?
WordPress features
- easy publishing interface
- blogging
- pages (for managing a website)
- podcasting
- uploading files
- images
- iPhone / iPod Touch application for writing posts
Portfolios
You can use the “Page” feature of WordPress to create and manage an online portfolio. Embed images, video, audio, or other media. Enable comments on the pages to solicit feedback and responses from other faculty or students. WordPress will also generate a table of contents menu for the portfolio, and create clean URLs for the pages. See a quick and dirty sample online portfolio (and of course you can do better than the demo!)
Avatars
can be shown on posts and comments so it’s easier to associate a face with a name
Polls
Want to get feedback on your class? Have students and colleagues provide responses to help with decision making? Evaluation of a project or activity? We’ve got a plugin that will let you create polls and embed them on pages or posts on your blog, and will track responses and provide a graphical breakdown of responses.
Contact form
If you’d like to be able to have people send you comments or messages without giving out your email address, we’ve got a plugin that will provide a contact form on any blog post or page – check out the “Contact” page.
Flickr photos
If you have a Flickr account, you can configure your blog to be able to post images from Flickr (your own photos, or by searching the site right from your blog while writing a post)
Republishing content from another blog
If you have another blog somewhere, you can have content republished automatically to your UCalgaryBlogs.ca blog
Embedding wiki pages
Want to embed a live wiki page from wiki.ucalgary.ca or wikipedia.org (or any other MediaWiki server?) We’ve got a plugin that will let you embed wiki pages within blog posts and pages.
Domain mapping
want to use your own domain for a custom URL? We can do that.
UCalgary theme
if you need a blog to look like an official UCalgary website, we have a theme for that.
