So Akismet seems to be working out pretty well, but there are still some evil spammers getting around it (or at least stuffing several blogs’ Akismet Moderation queues). I’ve added a couple more countermeasures – one to deal with automated spam comments, and another restricting new blog signups to IP addresses located in Canada (to prevent the Russian spam farms from targeting our happy little blogging community site).
As always, if anyone has ANY problems with the site – comments not being published, etc… PLEASE let me know as soon as possible so I can fix it.

So us Americans can;t get a blog on UCalgary blogs? I thought you Canucks were open!
Now, moreimportantly, where are the links to those countermeasures, or tutorials, UMW Blogs has seen a number of rogue spams get through over the last day or two.
oh, we’re open, baybee. But we were also getting a fair number of splog attempts from .ru and .lv country codes. I figured since ucalgaryblogs.ca intended for the U of C community, restricting blog creation to .ca is a valid move – once a blog is created, it can be managed, commented and posted from anywhere.
